Simon Hoegsberg

Born and raised in Aarhus, Denmark. Began writing a novel at the age of 18 but gave it up later.

— I hated the thought of giving up that marvelous project that writing a novel — my novel — was, but I needed to see the world. Needed to live.
So I went to London to study photography for three years at The London Institute. In 2001 I went back to Copenhagen, Denmark where I have been living and working as a freelance photographer ever since.
During the last months the thought of writing again has started to grow on me. Images are not enough — especially not if they are presented without words. Images need a context within which to be understood, and writing — as I see it — is very well suited to present that context. In other words: I feel a desire to fuse photography and literature. I tend to feel that images are too inarticulate if no text accompany them. I've always felt that. Photography is a medium people use to express how they see reality. I too want to express how I see reality but I cannot do this through images alone. I don't think anyone can. I find it to be urgent to challenge my own ways. To challenge the way I have been working for a long time.
Until this happens you can check out the projects I've done so far.
